ChatBriefly Terms of Service

Last Updated: 21 August 2026

These Terms govern your use of ChatBriefly ("the Service"), available at chatbriefly.com and through our mobile app. By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What ChatBriefly Is

ChatBriefly lets you create and join private, PIN protected chat rooms with live machine translation, so that each participant can read the conversation in their own language. Standard chats are anonymous and temporary: they expire automatically and are then permanently deleted, as described in our Privacy Policy.

2. Using the Service

Anonymous use. You can use basic chat features without creating an account. Inside a chat you appear under a generic username unless you choose your own display name for that chat.

Accounts. Optional features such as Pro ID, channels and paid extensions require verifying an email address. You are responsible for keeping access to that email address and for activity that happens through your account. You can delete your account at any time in your account settings.

Age. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use paid features with the consent of a parent or guardian.

3. Your Content and Conduct

You are responsible for what you send. You keep ownership of your messages and files; you grant us the limited technical permission needed to store, transmit and translate them so that the Service can function, and nothing more.

You agree not to use the Service to send content that is illegal, that infringes the rights of others, or that harasses, threatens or defrauds anyone, and not to abuse the platform through spam, malware, attempts to break its security, or automated bulk use. Chat owners can moderate their chats, including removing participants and deleting the chat.

4. Translation

Translations are produced automatically by machine translation. They are usually good, but they are not certified and can contain mistakes. Do not rely on them where precise wording matters, such as legal, medical or financial communication, without independent verification.

5. Chat Lifetime and Deletion

A standard chat expires 24 hours after creation, followed by a short viewing grace period, after which it is permanently deleted together with its messages and files. Expired and deleted chats cannot be restored, so save anything you need before a chat ends. Chats can be extended with paid extensions, and Pro users can keep selected chats open indefinitely.

6. Paid Features

Products. We offer paid products including chat extensions, the Pro ID (a personal chat handle and profile page), channels, and a monthly Premium subscription. Prices are shown at checkout before you pay.

Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. Applicable taxes may be added depending on your location.

Subscriptions. The Premium subscription renews automatically each month until cancelled. You can cancel at any time in your account settings or through the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid period and you keep access until then.

One time purchases. Chat extensions, Pro IDs and channels are one time purchases. A chat extension that has been applied to a chat is consumed and cannot be returned.

Refunds. Because most of our products are digital services that are delivered immediately, purchases are generally non refundable once delivered, except where the law of your country gives you a mandatory right to a refund. If something went wrong with a purchase, contact us and we will look at it.

Pro ID names. Pro IDs are personal handles. We may reclaim a Pro ID that infringes someone's rights, impersonates another person or brand, or violates these Terms.

7. KindReturn Tags

KindReturn tags let a finder of a lost item start an anonymous chat with the item's owner by scanning a tag. Tag owners are responsible for the accuracy of the information they attach to a tag. Finders must use the contact function only for its intended purpose. We log security relevant tag events, as described in the Privacy Policy, to protect owners against misuse.

8. Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service, or remove content, where we reasonably believe these Terms are being violated, where the law requires it, or to protect the Service and its users. Where practical we will act proportionately, for example by removing specific content rather than blocking an account.

9. Availability and Changes to the Service

We work to keep the Service available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. We may change, add or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid feature you have already paid for, we will provide a fair remedy, such as a pro rata refund of prepaid amounts.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non infringement. We are not a party to the conversations held through the Service and are not responsible for what users say to each other.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or 50 euros if you have paid nothing. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for intent, gross negligence, or death or personal injury.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. The current version is always published on this page with its date. If a change is significant we will announce it on the site, and your continued use of the Service after it takes effect constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ireland, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live.
